All aboard! The All Systems Go Long-Range Transit Plan has the green light.
|
|
Beyond the Urban Commuter Rail Line and Rapid Bus service, Capital Metro is evaluating future transportation options to connect more of the community to these services. Together with the community’s input, Capital Metro is conducting an All Systems Go Future Connections Study that examines several areas in our urban core that might benefit from enhanced transit services. The study areas include the downtown central business district, the Capitol complex, the University of Texas Main Campus, the Mueller redevelopment area, and east central Austin. As with all of our planning efforts, we need the help from our community members to provide input and feedback for these studies.

Central Austin Circulator Study Update
|
- Economic Analysis: We are working on estimates of the economic impact of the proposed streetcar. In other cities, the corridor along a streetcar route is typically the site of dense development. One factor, the lower need for parking along a streetcar route, allows more commercial and retail development than would otherwise occur.
- Refine Costs: We are working to develop good estimates of capital and operating costs, which involves estimates of likely ridership. These estimates are based on using transportation models, modified for the likely development effects.
- Exploring Financing Options: Capital Metro will need public and private partnerships to implement this project. We are exploring possibilities for those partnerships.
- Continue Community Outreach: We will continue to meet with community groups, especially those in the corridor along the proposed route.
- Respond to Questions and Concerns: Ongoing for all our projects.
